Three Arrested for What Some Call a Plot to Kill Baton Rouge Cops
In Baton Rouge, Police Chief Carl Dabadie said in a press conference that three people have been arrested in a plot to kill Baton Rouge officers.
Four people broke into a Cash America Pawn shop on Saturday and stolen guns. One of the suspects, Antonio Thomas, 17, was arrested in the store. Two other suspects were arrested in connection with the case.
Malik Bridgewater, 20, and an unidentified 13-year-old have been taken into police custody. Three handguns were found at the home of Bridgewater during a police search. Officials still believe that there is one suspect who remains at large.
When officers recovered six of the eight stolen handguns, they had reason to believe the weapons would be used in a plot to kill Baton Rouge cops. Chief Dabadie said that during questioning, Thomas revealed “real, credible evidence” that officers would be under attack.
Dabadie also said that when Thomas was arrested, he “stated that he and three other suspects stole the firearms and were going to get bullets to shoot police.”
D’Ahmad Winfield, 23, who is friends with one of the suspects, was detained and questioned by police. During questioning, Winfield claimed, “We didn’t have nothing to do with it at all. We ain’t never tried to murder no cops.”
No information has been released regarding the 13-year-old involved or any additional statements made by the suspects.
